The NATURALISTS' CLUB was founded in 1969 for the purpose of actively promoting knowledge, appreciation, and preservation of our natural environment. It is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization.

Education is the main focus of The NATURALISTS' CLUB. Programming is designed to enable people with diverse interests to get together and exchange ideas with an emphasis on local natural history. Activities are geared to the layperson, to aquaint her/him with the natural world through field trips, workshops, and courses. Monthly meetings are held at the Science Museum in Springfield, MA. Most field trips and programs are free.

The NATURALISTS' CLUB also is committed to preserving our natural environment. Major club conservation efforts have included:

  • Whale-of-a-Day - one of the largest and finest whale preservation programs.
  • Mount Tom Preservation Project. A successful campaign to stop logging on Mt. Tom.
  • Bird-rehabilitation program.
  • Campaign to stop Acid Rain.
Future plans include making an inventory of rare and unusual habitats in the Springfield area, with the purpose of making recommendations for their utility and enhancement.
