Naturalists’ Club Meeting  - 19 January 2005

Nancy and Tom Condon shared images and stories about their acventures in South Africa and Tanzania this past summer.  The photography was outstanding with closeups of all the big mammals you would expect as well as smaller mammals and lots of birds.  We learned that the "Big Five" (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and rhino) are a big prize for hunters and photographers alike and that all African guides try to bag a view of these animals during visitor's stay.  But we also learned that the diversity of wildlife goes far beyond these five.  We were treated to numerous photos and stories about giraffe, zebra, hyenas, rock hyrax and others.
Next month we will get more in depth with African Elephants with a real researcher from Tanzania, Alfred Kikoti.
